Terms & Conditions

By purchasing a Ribs & Dust® piece and signing this agreement, you are acknowledging that you give our designer/s the right to full artistic interpretation. You acknowledge that any original concepts discussed or sketched may vary slightly from the final piece. A sketch will be produced for custom orders only including engagement rings and bespoke designs. You are welcome to request further sketches and explanation, if at any point you find it difficult to interpret what is communicated with you prior to commencement of assembly. Whilst we will always strive to incorporate your design ideas, we reserve the right to make executive assembly decisions, according to best jewellery practise, to ensure the longevity of your custom piece. As each piece is carefully crafted by hand, you may notice subtle idiosyncrasies and hand-felt quirks that add to the individuality and overall charm of your jewellery. Additionally, we reserve the right to interpret the design of each piece to gel with the aesthetics of our main body of work and for the sake of continuity. Naturally, any artistic work is ultimately subjective, so please carefully consider whether our aesthetics and expertise are a good fit for you, before requesting to engage us in creating your custom order.
We pride ourselves on clear communication and we understand each client has different expectations and needs in this regard. As intuitive as our team is, we do request transparency in communication and feedback from you. This will allow us to fully comprehend how we can best service your needs, as well as clarifying any queries you may have at any point. We want every client to have a five-star experience with every aspect of the process, from the inception of each project, to completion and beyond.
Central to the core of our business is integrity and ethical trade. All of our materials are procured from well vetted, reputable sources and are free from any ethical ambiguity. Equally, our jewellery is created in-house from our studio in the Currumbin Valley in Australia by skilled workers. We welcome you to offer up materials (such as inherited diamonds, gold or otherwise) that you may have access to, to utilise in the construction of your custom jewellery. However, we must warn you that we cannot accept liability for any damage incurred to those materials, during the assembly process. The essence of handmade jewellery requires the skilled manipulation of metal which can require the excessive use of heat and pressure using various tools, which have the potential to cause damage to your material. If you are unwilling to accept this risk, allow us to source materials for you, using our reputable channels and preserve the sentimentality of your materials. It’s also important to understand that when using old gold and materials that haven’t been through a refining process, it’s possible that solder and other variables can affect the purity of material. If this is of concern, please let us know and we can arrange for the refining of materials as well as sourcing supplementary material for your piece.
As we are a small team and each piece is custom made by hand, we require full payment in advance of commencing work on your order. If you would like to discuss more flexible payment terms, these will be assessed on a case by case basis and we are happy to discuss the options with you at your convenience. Goods remain the property of Ribs & Dust® until paid for in full. As items are made to order, or in limited collections, all sales are final and non-refundable.
We place considerable importance on making sure that your piece is the perfect fit for you. However, we understand that there are cases where resizing is required. All Ribs & Dust® customers are entitled to ONE free resize service, in the unlikely case that it is required - unless you are explicitly told that resizing is unavailable due to the delicate nature of certain materials (such as opal, or pearls for example). A fee will be incurred for additional resizing. Please note that it is critical to get the size of your ring correct, particularly when your piece has precious stones set in it. There are no adhesives used in any of our work, just the manipulation of precious metals. Consequently, if your ring requires resizing, extreme care is needed so as not to affect the structural integrity of the stone settings. We cannot accept responsibility for lost stones or damage to a ring after resizing has taken place.
We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our quality control procedures. Thus, in the extremely rare case of an item requiring a repair, we will assess it on a case-by-case basis. Please understand that despite the utmost care being taken, wear and tear is a part of life. Your pieces will subtly change over time as they are made of precious, malleable metals and natural stones. Thus, wear and tear from everyday life does not constitute or warrant our repair services. Ribs & Dust® cannot accept any liability from damage caused by normal wear over time. Some examples of common jewellery issues that are not considered as manufacturing faults are: bent, caught or worn out claws, causing stones to loosen or fall out (due to normal wear or other damage.); Discolouration due to oxidsation or by exposure to chemicals such as chlorine in hot tubs. If things like these do occur, get in touch and we can make suggestions for keeping your custom piece in top condition. Furthermore, if your piece uses precious stones that are considered “delicate”, you will be made explicitly aware of the risks associated with those particular materials prior to the commencement of work on your piece. Some examples include, but are not limited to, opal, pearls, tanzanite, emerald etc. Ribs & Dust® source all chains via a premier Italian chain supplier. These chains go through extensive quality control measures before reaching you, however, due to their delicate nature, it is important all chains are worn with care in mind. As these chains are sourced via a third party, they don’t fall under the same guarantee as our other pieces. If you do require your chain to be repaired, this will be assessed on a case by case basis. Please email us at info@ribsanddust.com with images of your damaged chain and we will liaise with you on the best course of action.
We stand behind the quality of our jewellery and acknowledge all items will be free from manufacturing defects for the life of our product. If you believe your item has a manufacturing defect, you may return your item for inspection by our jewellers. We will repair or replace any items that are deemed to have any kind of manufacturing defect. If we determine that any damage incurred was not due to a manufacturing defect, then you will be made aware of our repair services at an additional charge.
We have the great pleasure of sending our custom pieces to countries all over the world. International customers are responsible for all custom clearance fees and taxes associated with shipping to their respective countries. Orders shipped to countries outside of Australia may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees deemed by that specific country. Ribs & Dust® has no control over such custom charges and further we cannot predict what they may be. We recommend that because customs procedures vary widely from country to country, you should contact your local customs office for further information prior to confirming your order. It should also be noted that custom clearance procedures are beyond the control of Ribs & Dust®. Consequently, such procedures can sometimes eventuate into delays beyond our original delivery schedule and estimate.
All of our pieces are custom and made-to-order by our small team in our Currumbin Valley Studio. Bespoke orders, especially engagement rings and wedding bands, will be shipped to you within 8-10 weeks from the date of invoice payment, unless otherwise discussed (prior to confirming your order). For Signia® Collection pieces, our lead time is 8-10 weeks from when a successful impression mould is submitted and approved. If you require a piece urgently or by a specific date, you will need to let us know beforehand and we will do our best to accommodate accordingly. By signing this agreement, you accept that these timings are guidelines and not guarantees and can fluctuate according to the workload of our team, which we will communicate with you accordingly.
The organic beauty of our Signia® Collection lies in the uniqueness and variation of each print we have the privilege of working on. Every print will differ in pattern, depth and definition, particularly for young ones and the elderly. Despite providing our best advice and instruction, the onus on obtaining a clear and legible print is up to you. We reserve the right to reject any prints that are unclear or taken improperly and will offer the opportunity to retake the impression where possible. The cost of additional impression kits are the responsibility of the client, including any international shipping charges required. This is an incredibly individualised process and as such there are variables beyond our control. Providing you follow the instructions properly and take a clear impression, this will maximise the clarity of the fingerprint impression. The natural undulations of fingerprints, can impact the fluid mechanics of molten metal which can lead to micro-porosity or pitting on the impression jewellery. Whilst we mitigate this as best as possible, this is not considered a manufacturing fault and is inherent with this style of design. When obtaining an impression of a child’s fingerprint, we have found that best practice is taking a print from a child who is at least 2 years old. It is possible to obtain an impression from a younger child, however we want to make sure that your little one’s fingerprints are developed enough to create a defined impression mould that you absolutely love. Therefore, Ribs & Dust® has full discretion to recommend either to proceed with the impression print or to wait longer for the child’s prints to develop further. Ribs & Dust® will return your prints to you at the time of sending your completed piece to you unless otherwise specified.
If you have any queries with regards to any aspect of these terms and conditions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for further clarification. We look forward to putting your unique jewellery piece together for you.
